Introduction

The professional men and women in the Car Rental Security industry are interested in the investigation, apprehension and prosecution of those committing crimes against their respective companies. Most are former law enforcement and are responsible for the protection of their company's assets. They often act as liaison between their local rental office and law enforcement. Corporate agencies are self-insured and most are NICB Associate Members and participate in the ISO VIN Monitoring Program. Many are members of IAATI, IAFCI, ASIS, and other professional organizations.

The laws regarding rental vehicle theft varies in each state. Each agency must also follow their own procedure and that of the local authorities. As a result, there may be a delay before an overdue or missing vehicle can be reported stolen. In some jurisdictions, a rental vehicle may not be entered into NCIC as stolen, or entry may be delayed.

You will find car rental security personnel very cooperative and will work with you to the extent possible once your identity has been verified. Information requests may be required to be in writing, i.e. faxed on department letterhead. A subpoena may be required in some situations. The process varies for each agency.

Your efforts and assistance to the car rental industry is greatly appreciated.

Thank You!
