Introduction

The professional men and women in the Car Rental Security industry are interested in the investigation, apprehension and prosecution of those committing crimes against their respective companies. Most are former law enforcement and they are all responsible for the protection of their company's assets. They often act as a liaison between their local rental offices and law enforcement. Most larger corporate rental agencies are self-insured and some are Associate Members of NICB. Many of the security personnel are members of IAATI, IAFCI, ASIS, and other professional organizations.

The laws regarding rental vehicle theft varies in each state. Each rental agency must also follow their own internal procedures as well as that of the local authorities. Therefore, a delay may be encountered before an "overdue" or "missing" vehicle can be reported stolen. In some jurisdictions, a rental vehicle theft may not result in an NCIC entry so law enforcement personnel should exercise caution, especially since rental cars my be used to facilitate other crimes.

This reference is divided into two sections; HQ and Field Security Contacts. There is a separate page for each rental agency with HQ information and a list of Field Contacts (including HQ Contacts) provided for download. There may also be good "non-security" contacts at the local rental office. Always attempt to speak with "Car Control" or the "Manager on Duty" when contacting a local rental office directly. However, your inquiry may be referred to HQ Security and/or Field Security personnel depending upon the nature of your request. Keep in mind that unless otherwise noted, this information is for corporately owned locations. Some rental locations may be a licensee or franchise and you may be referred to that entity for further assistance.

Your identity may be subject to verification unless you have already established yourself as a law enforcement contact. Likewise, requests for information may be required to be in writing, i.e. faxed on official police department letterhead or an actual subpoena. The process varies for each agency. You will find car rental security personnel to be very cooperative and willing to work with you to the extent possible once your identity has been verified. Likewise, your effort and assistance to the car rental industry is greatly appreciated.

Thank You!
